The National Cancer Institute has awarded the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center a $35.7 million grant to support its cancer research and patient care programs. The grant is part of a five-year funding stream to support top-ranked cancer centers and their infrastructure. In 2004, the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center received a total of $255 million in external funding. The center has used federal grants to study how DNA recognizes and repairs its own mutations, and the role of certain oncogenes in advancing cancer.
