Catalent Pharma Solutions Celebrates 80 Years Of Softgel Innovation At Interphex

Somerset, N.J. – March 17, 2014 — Celebrating 80 years of softgel innovation, Catalent Pharma Solutions, the leading global provider of advanced delivery technologies and development solutions for drugs, biologics and consumer health products, today announced that its senior management team, as well as graduates from the company’s Global Operations Leadership Development (GOLD) program, will present at the “Educational Programs for Young Professionals” day. The company will also present “Advanced Aseptic Processing to Reduce Risk with Sterile Fill/Finish” on the event’s Innovation Stage during the forthcoming Interphex trade show.

On Wednesday, March 19th, Sridhar Krishnan, Catalent’s Vice President, Global Operations, will present “Catalent GOLD - Accelerating Leadership Pipeline in Pharma & Biotech.” Catalent’s GOLD program is an intensive two-year leadership development opportunity, designed for university graduates who have a strong desire to accelerate their career growth in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment. Mr. Krishnan’s presentation, which takes place from 10.30-11.30 am, will outline the GOLD leadership model and will feature the first hand experiences of three graduates who have successfully participated in the program.

Also on Wednesday 19th, from 2.45 to 3.45 pm, Akan Oton, Catalent’s Director, Global Licensing & Corporate Alliances, will lead a discussion on “Commercializing Emerging Drug Delivery Technologies,” which takes place from 2:45 to 3:45 pm. His presentation will address the evolving role of drug delivery in pharma products from a commercial perspective and will look at current trends in drug delivery and unmet needs currently being pursued by innovators. He will also give examples of a typical path to commercialization of drug delivery technologies by innovators.

On Thursday, March 20th, from 11.45 am to 12.45 pm, Bill Hartzel, Catalent’s Director, Strategic Execution, Advanced Delivery Technologies will present, “Advanced Aseptic Processing to Reduce Risk with Sterile Fill/Finish.” His presentation will feature ways to identify the Quality by Design elements of Blow/Fill/Seal equipment and the evaluation of the risk mitigation properties of advanced aseptic properties as well as taking a look at Catalent’s newly launched ADVASEPTTM technology.

A veteran of over 20 years in Global Supply Chain and Operations, Sridhar Krishnan started his career at a large public sector defense organization, where he worked in R&D, Production Control Planning and Value Engineering functions. He then spent 14 years in Healthcare Operations at General Electric where he gained experience in multiple countries as a global leader. At Catalent, he has responsibility for Managing Global Continuous Improvement & Technology programs, facilities, international trade controls, security, and working capital for nearly 30 facilities. He has a degree in mechanical engineering from Bangalore University, India, and is a Certified Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.

Akan Oton leads Business Development for Catalent’s Product Ventures Group and Research & Development Function. He is responsible for managing Catalent’s technology roadmap, related licensing activities, and leading technology related due diligence activities in support of M&A. In addition he serves on the Board of the Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute. Prior to joining Catalent, Mr. Oton worked in leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson, Cardinal Health and Procter & Gamble.

A Certified Licensing Professional, Mr. Oton was the recipient of Catalent’s 2012 CEO Award for Leadership in Innovation & Business Impact.

Mr. Oton is a masters graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in mechanical engineering, where he was awarded a National Science Graduate Fellowship. Mr. Oton also holds an engineering degree from Columbia University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.

Bill Hartzel is responsible for the implementation of a full suite of advanced aseptic processing solutions for biologic and complex pharmaceutical liquid products. He has a strong background in advanced aseptic processing in blow/fill/seal and has been a leader in the single-use “disposables” industry since 2006. Mr. Hartzel is on the Board of Directors for BPSA, is a technical author for the PDA – TR on Single Use Manufacturing, and the former Chairman of the ASME BPE Task Group for Single Use. Bill has an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from Villanova University.
