IRVING, Texas, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Carrington Laboratories, Inc., today announced they have filed a lawsuit against Mr. Tom O'Brien, president of the Center for Natural Healing. The lawsuit alleges unauthorized use of Carrington's Manapol(R) mark by Mr. O'Brien. In addition, a website operated by Mr. O'Brien contained libelous and disparaging statements regarding Carrington, Manapol(R) powder and the drug substance acemannan. These statements were fraudulently posted as a press release from the International Aloe Science Council ("IASC"). However, when asked, the IASC stated they did not issue this press release nor did they authorize the use of their logo or name by Mr. O'Brien. The suit was filed on November 28, 2006 in the Dallas County District Court.
A company spokesperson emphasized that the actions taken by Carrington does not preclude legal actions by the IASC or any member of IASC.
"The statements that appeared on the website were inaccurate and misleading to consumers," stated Ms. Pamela Schonbeck, Sr. Director of Sales & Marketing. "Carrington will not tolerate infringement of our trademarks or defamatory statements against our company, products or technology. We will be monitoring websites that use the Manapol(R) mark and evaluate the use of our marks in literature from various companies." She added, "Carrington will license the use of its trademarks to organizations producing quality products using Carrington's proprietary raw materials."
