WAUKESHA, Wis., Sept. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardiac Science, a global leader in automated external defibrillators (AEDs), announced today that the company has amended its existing AED contract with the state of New Jersey to now include the new Powerheart G5 AEDthe first FDA-cleared AED to offer a combination of automatic shock delivery, variable escalating energy, and rapid shock times.
The initial agreement, signed in 2013, made Cardiac Science an authorized vendor to provide AEDs and AED-related services to state agencies. The contract requires AEDs that are easy to use and, at the same time, technologically sophisticated.
Coinciding with the amended contract, Cardiac Science will also assist New Jersey municipalities and youth organizations preparing to meet the requirements of the state’s newest AED law. Bill A-3500 is expected to be signed into law by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie this year, requiring all organizations and municipalities that have organized youth sports or youth camps to have an AED available to provide care within three minutes.
The AED requirement covers Little Leagues, Babe Ruth Leagues, Pop Warner Leagues, police athletic leagues, youth soccer leagues, as well as municipal and county youth sports organizations.
“Easy-to-use, fully automatic AEDs have become essential safety equipment for schools and youth recreation,” said Al Ford, Cardiac Science General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales / Marketing. “The Powerheart G5 will be ideal for many of the youth sports organizations seeking to comply with the new law.”
In January, 2015, the Elizabeth (N.J.) Public School District used a Powerheart AED to save the life of a third grade student who went into sudden cardiac arrest. Additionally, Cardiac Science works closely with the Hackensack Public School District “Code Blue” program, which has used Powerheart AEDs to save the lives of a student and a school visitor.
The Powerheart G5 is designed for ease of maintenance as well as ease of use. It conducts daily, weekly, and monthly self-tests and has a highly visible indicator to confirm the device’s Rescue Ready® status. It comes with an 8-year warranty and a 4-year performance guarantee on its Intellisense® medical grade non-rechargeable batteries. Finally, the G5 features dual-language capability that allows users to change the voice prompts in the chosen language without restarting or delaying the rescue.
