Changing the Future of Infertility: Fertility Specialist Dr. Paul Turek’s Technique Proven to Find Hidden Sperm
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Disruptive technology developed by world-renowned infertility specialist, delivers on dreams of men and their partners to become parents. Men previously thought to be sterile can become biological fathers even after conventional infertility treatments have failed, by undergoing Sperm Mapping, the study shows.
According to Dr. Paul Turek, senior author on the paper and the inventor of this groundbreaking technique, the Sperm Mapping process works like GPS does in your car, mapping the patients’ testicles for sperm, and then using the ‘map’ to guide sperm retrieval, making it possible for men to become fathers even without ejaculated sperm.
The research compared two different approaches to surgical sperm retrieval in sterile men to achieve the findings. The study:
- Examined nearly 600 sterile men globally over a 5-year period.
- Performed Sperm Mapping on 82 cases in which no sperm were found on Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction (m-TESE) procedures.
- Found sperm by Fine Needle Aspiration Sperm Mapping in almost 1/3 (29%) of men who had failed m-TESE procedures.
- Using Sperm Mapping, as GPS, sperm were found in all men who had sperm retrieval for IVF-ICSI.
- As the largest study of failed m-TESEs to date, the study proves an advance in the field of male infertility as Sperm Mapping found sperm when other procedures failed.
“It’s clear from this research that we can now help men become bio-dads with this technique when conventional procedures have failed,” said Dr. Turek. “It is very gratifying to get birth announcements from men whose sperm has been hidden from others and that we have found.”
This data provides new hope for men hoping to become biological fathers, in the wake of other studies that reportedly found sperm counts falling worldwide.
