BIRMINGHAM, UK and BERLIN, Germany, October 19, 2013—BIOTRONIK, a leading global manufacturer of cardiovascular technology, is celebrating its 50th anniversary at Heart Rhythm Congress 2013 by showcasing a number of new state-of-the-art innovations.

BIOTRONIK has recently launched an extension of its ProMRI® technology to include full body MR scans for its dual- and single chamber pacemakers. By combining advanced pacemaker and ICD technology with the option for patients to undergo MR scans, BIOTRONIK is the only company worldwide to allow ICD and heart failure patients (CRT-D and CRT-P) to take advantage of potentially life-saving MR scans.

The DX system

BIOTRONIK’s DX platform, which uses a single lead for complete atrial diagnostics, incorporates the benefits of both single- and dual-chamber ICDs. The DX system provides atrial information to aid in diagnostic accuracy while reducing the risk of complications associated with an additional atrial lead. It also enables early detection of atrial arrhythmia with BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring®.

The DX System – available with the recently FDA-approved Iforia 7 VR-T DX, newly CE marked high energy Idova ICD/CRT-D series and Linoxsmart S DX leads – offers the unique advantages of both single and dual-chamber ICDs. The use of dual-chamber devices in patients without a clear indication for the use of an additional atrial lead has received a great deal of attention over the past few years. The DX System virtually eliminates this issue, representing a new paradigm in ICD therapy that fills a critical clinical need.

“Throughout our 50-year history, our goal has been to develop the most innovative technology on the market, ensuring physicians and their patients have access to cutting-edge therapies”, said Dr Michael Kipping, Director Sales & Marketing, BIOTRONIK UK & Ireland. “With innovations like ProMRI, DX and CLS we have proven our ability to make a real difference in patients’ lives and live up to our global reputation for excellence.”

Closed Loop Stimulation

CLS Technology – unique to BIOTRONIK pacemakers - is the only sensor system in the world that can trigger changes in heart rate in order to optimize cardiovascular flow not only based on physical activity, but also based on acute mental excitement or stress.

Closed Loop Stimulation is a unique physiologic technology of rate-adaptive pacing. It is the only sensor system in the world that can trigger changes in heart rate to optimize cardiovascular flow during mental excitement or stress. CLS integrates into the natural cardiovascular control system and determines the appropriate heart rate based on intracardiac impedance measurements. These measurements reflect changes of the cardiac contraction dynamics in reaction to information coming from the autonomic nervous system. CLS is available for selected BIOTRONIK pacemakers, including ones featuring the original BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring® service.
