ARLINGTON, VA—November 3, 2011 — The companies making the tools of science don’t often get the same level of attention as the big drug companies and world class research centers they support.
That will change on November 15, 2011 at a 6:30PM at the Grand Hyatt Washington when the Finalists and Winners of the 2011 Life Science Industry Awards® will be announced. Nearly 200 executives from companies large and small are expected to attend the lavish event saluting stars of the industry.
“More than 6,000 scientists from around the world have participated in the nomination and voting process,” notes Kate Pastrick, Director of Business Analytics at BioInformatics, LLC the market research firm covering the industry. “The scientists have had their say. They’ve told us who they think is ‘best in class’ in 29 award categories, and why their favorite suppliers are the best. Our scoring methodology ensures that the winners are determined in an unbiased fashion, which brings to these awards the highest degree of integrity.”
As expected, industry giants such as Bio-Rad (NYSE: BIO), GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE), Life Technologies (NasdaqGS: LIFE), Sigma-Aldrich (NasdaqGS: SIAL) and Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE: TMO) made a strong showing as nominated companies. However, specialty suppliers such as Abcam (LSE: ABC.L ), Cell Signaling Technology and STEMCELL Technologies held their own in the nominations as well. “It’s an honor for life science tool companies to be nominated for these awards because they are truly based on the collective voice of their customers,” said Bill Kelly, President of BioInformatics, LLC. “But it’s also an opportunity for busy people to forget about the competition for one evening and focus on a goal they all share – and that is, driving life science research forward to enable scientific discovery.”
The assembled industry luminaries, including top-level executives from the 62 nominated companies, will be treated to an extravagant buffet before listening to the keynote address of Professor Alessandra Luchini of George Mason University. Dr. Luchini was recently honored as one of the ten most brilliant scientists under the age of 40. Following Dr. Luchini’s remarks, the Finalists and Winners in each product and service category will be revealed. The event will conclude at 9:30PM.
