Binax, Inc. Issues Clarification Re BinaxNow(R) Flu A & B Test

SCARBOROUGH, Maine, May 1, /PRNewswire/ -- Binax, Inc., a leading provider of in vitro diagnostic tests to identify the causative pathogens of infectious diseases, announced that it has learned that inaccurate and erroneous information has been distributed to customers and potential customers of the BinaxNow(R) Influenza A & B test. The performance of the BinaxNow(R) Influenza A & B test has not been validated for detection of the 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus of swine origin.

The test has been demonstrated to detect multiple strains of influenza A of human origin in clinical specimens (See product insert for performance data), but the swine flu involved in the current outbreak is a newly emergent strain. Therefore, the performance of current rapid tests, including the BinaxNOW(R), have not been established for detection of the current swine flu in infected patients.

Please consult the Binax website (www.binax.com) for accurate information relating to BinaxNOW Influenza A & B test performance.
