INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The WellPoint company foundations are joining the millions of Americans and companies providing immediate financial relief to the victims of the Southern Asia earthquake and tsunami with a contribution of $500,000, divided equally among four American relief organizations. In addition, the foundations will provide a 50 percent match for all associate contributions to these four organizations during January 2005.
"WellPoint, Inc. recognizes its responsibility as a good corporate citizen to respond to this international health crisis," said Larry C. Glasscock, president and chief executive officer of WellPoint, Inc.
In order to focus our efforts, contributions will be directed to the United States Fund for UNICEF and three health care-related agencies that have received national recognition for the quality and efficiency of their programs and services -- AmeriCares, Direct Relief International and the International Rescue Committee. All four organizations are recommended by the White House, major news organizations and other reliable sources.
