SAN FRANCISCO, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Steve Bracks, the Premier of Victoria, Australia will be joined by corporate executives and scientific researchers from Australia and the U.S. at a press briefing this Sunday, June 6 at the San Francisco Marriott Hotel.
Mr. Bracks, who is leading the Victoria delegation to the BIO2004 conference and exhibition, will review the status of Victoria's Biotechnology Strategic Plan. Several announcements of initiatives and programs in different biotechnology segments are on the agenda, including a landmark agreement in stem cell research, new developments in the detection of Anthrax, and a Phase II clinical trial of a potential melanoma vaccine.

The State Government's vision for Victoria is that it will become one of the top five world centers for biotechnology by 2010. To achieve this goal the state already has committed more than AUD $500 million to biotechnology initiatives in the five years to 2005.
