SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vesper Society observes its 40th year of service to the Bay Area and nations around the globe, culminating with an anniversary celebration Sept. 24th at the Stanford Faculty Club.
Vesper Society was formed in May 1965 as a consultancy to faith-related non-profit healthcare organizations. By the end of the decade it owned and operated San Leandro Hospital (now part of Eden Medical Center), and later Hayward Hospital (now St. Rose Medical Center). By the early 1970s, Vesper was providing faith-based community healthcare both in the Bay Area and outside of the U.S.
Current Vesper Society projects include the Adolescent Health Consortium, which provides at-risk youth in Hayward with both counseling and healthcare services; an urgent care clinic to treat the uninsured in Antioch in conjunction with Sutter Delta Medical Center; and the African Religious Health Assets Program. ARHAP will marshal the assets of various faith-based institutions to provide AIDS treatment in South Africa, Zambia and several other nations.
Since 1985, the Vesper Society has spent more than $75 million on local and overseas healthcare improvement projects, including hospice and home health operations, dental clinics for low-income individuals and outreach in South and Central America.
“No matter its permutation, Vesper Society’s mission to provide care and improve the lives of those most in need has never wavered,” says Vesper Society Chairman Rodric A. Lorimer.
