After a thorough review of the applicants, NACDS selected Katrina Thompson (Class of 2012), and John H. Hudson (Class of 2011) from the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in Charleston, West Virginia, for this year’s NACDS RxIMPACT “U” Advocacy Award. The two students received the award for their leadership in organizing student participation in a Pharmacist’s Legislative Day held at the West Virginia State Capitol, where students engaged with lawmakers on the vital role pharmacy plays in the healthcare delivery system.
The award program is one element of the larger NACDS RxIMPACT “U” initiative, which is committed to engaging pharmacy school students and faculty in the policymaking process.
“NACDS RxIMPACT ‘U’ was developed to engage the next generation of pharmacy – pharmacy school students – in grassroots advocacy,” said NACDS President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “Katrina and John have demonstrated a commitment to telling pharmacy’s story, and serve as fine examples for other advocates participating in NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill. I congratulate them and the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy.”
In addition to recognizing the student-leaders, NACDS also highlighted the superb participation of the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in NACDS RxIMPACT “U” and the Virtual NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill. University of Charleston School of Pharmacy Dean Michelle Easton will be presented $2,500 – from NACDS – to be used for the pharmacy school’s advocacy initiatives.
