SLAS Partners With Artel To Develop New “Liquid Handling Essentials” Short Course For SLAS2015

Westbrook, Maine (December 11, 2014) – Artel, the leader in liquid handling quality assurance, announced today that the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) and Artel are working together to produce a conference short course for the 2015 annual meeting in Washington, D.C. “Liquid Handling Essentials – A Hands-on Workshop Bridging Fundamental Concepts to Practice,” will be presented on Saturday, February 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Based on content developed by Artel, the course is designed for both new and experienced users, providing in-depth instruction on topics, issues and techniques important to the laboratory science and technology community. Participants can register online at: http://www.slas2015.org/registration/index.cfm

“Artel employees are extremely qualified to serve as instructors for this course because they have collaborated with a wide range of liquid-handling robotic manufacturers to deliver measurement, verification and calibration technologies, tools and techniques,” stated Steven Hamilton, Ph.D., director, education, Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening.

“Working with SLAS on this new short course fits right in with our paramount goal of assisting customers with their liquid handling strategies and challenges,” commented John Bradshaw, Ph.D., senior scientist at Artel. “We are very pleased to be participating with SLAS in providing this course.”

Collaborating manufacturers include Agilent, Beckman Coulter, CyBio, Tecan and TTP Labtech. In this all-new, hands-on workshop, instruments from these leading manufacturers will be used to illustrate liquid handling principles that are essential in achieving reliable assay results. Participants will come away with greater proficiency, judgment and confidence regarding operation and management of their liquid handling instrumentation.

“Artel is dedicated to helping people understand and get the most out of their liquid handlers, and we are delighted to share our expertise through this SLAS short course,” commented Dana Campbell, field applications specialist for Artel.

Instructors for the course will be Keith Albert, Ph.D., senior applications specialist for Artel; Dana Campbell, Artel field applications specialist; and Nathaniel Hentz, Ph.D., technology training director at North Carolina State University, with many years of experience in automation and assay development in life science laboratories.
