Reed Medical Education Release: Oncology Community To Gather At The 1st Annual Oncology World Congress In New York Nov. 16th - 19th

NEW YORK, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- With support from the top leading US Cancer Centers, the 1st Annual Oncology World Congress will debut tomorrow, Nov. 16th - Sat. Nov. 19th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, New York. A world class faculty of 165 leading oncologists representing multi-disciplinary areas of practice, will present the latest information to their community oncologist colleagues to keep them up to date on reimbursement policies, clinical trials, and outcomes data collection. Bridging the communications gap between research and practice to affect better patient care is the overarching theme for the meeting.

The official Congress begins tomorrow with a welcome from OWC Advisory Board Chair Waun Ki Hong, MD, from the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, and a plenary session on how the 2006 Medicare Modernization Act will impact oncology practices at 8:30 AM in the Broadway Room. A media Q & A will take place immediately following the session from 9:30 - 10:00 AM.

One thousand oncology professionals will gather over the next 3-1/2 days to attend the inaugural event. A faculty comprised of 164 renowned specialists including researchers, educators and practice guideline authors, will focus on providing the latest information on cutting-edge treatments, best practices, new technologies, and reimbursement policies that are most relevant to oncology practitioners.

According to the President’s Cancer Panel 2004-5 annual report, there is a significant need for increased focus on translating research advances into effective cancer prevention, patient interventions and improved patient outcomes.

“Congress sessions will focus on expediting the translation of clinical research and technological innovations to patient care by providing community oncologists with critical and timely information on research advances and emerging treatments. The forum will also focus on the day-to-day challenges of running an oncology practice and help physicians work to overcome existing barriers,” explains Dr. Hong.

A complete schedule of the week’s presentations and events is available on the website at http://www.oncologycongress.com. Press are encouraged to attend by visiting the Oncology World Press Room at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Times Square Room, 7th floor.
