RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiles Transnational Corp. today announced the expansion of its global data management network with the opening of a clinical data processing center in Williamston, N.C. The center will provide up to 70 new jobs in the eastern region of the state and build additional capacity for customers seeking services provided by U.S.-based staff.
The Williamston center, which will focus on data entry, is needed to meet growing demand by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies for Quintiles’ global data management services in the U.S. The 10,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2006, and Quintiles hopes to have about 20 employees trained and entering data by the end of the year. Additional jobs will be added as demand increases, up to the center’s maximum capacity of about 70 employees.

Martin County is receiving grants from the Golden LEAF Foundation, the N.C. Rural Center and One North Carolina Fund to provide assistance with startup costs.
The Martin County center will enter data from clinical trials into secure databases for review and analysis by Quintiles experts around the world. Most of the data pertain to the safety and efficacy of potential new medicines and help regulatory authorities determine whether to approve a drug for marketing.
In addition to North Carolina, Quintiles has data management centers in Missouri, India, South Africa and Europe. In Japan, Quintiles has a dedicated data management group in Tokyo.
The Williamston office is about 120 miles from Quintiles’ offices near Research Triangle Park, N.C.
