Today a company called Tal Medical is starting up in Boston with the goal of developing an entirely new approach to treating depression, inspired by a specific type of magnetic field found in some MRI imaging machines. The research is still very early, but the treatment—developed at McClean Hospital in Belmont, MA—was promising enough to win backing from Boston-based PureTech Ventures and to attract an impressive slate of talent, including former Eli Lilly executive Steven Paul, who will serve as the founding chief scientific officer.
