PolyOne Features Non-Lead Radiation Protection at Medical Design and Manufacturing East Exhibition

CLEVELAND, June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL) today announced that it has worked with Siemens Healthcare to develop non-lead radiation shielding components for Siemens' newest line of CT scanners. PolyOne is displaying the components this week at the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East exhibition being held at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Using PolyOne's Trilliant Healthcare Radiation Shielding Compound, Siemens was able to design and produce components with radiation shielding performance equal to lead while reducing component costs compared to traditional metal and lead parts.

Close collaboration with PolyOne also enabled Siemens to benefit from:

  • Reduced environmental impact with a RoHS-compliant alternative
  • Ability to shield areas more effectively due to increased design flexibility
  • Reduced machining, assembly and regulatory costs

Increasingly, healthcare manufacturers are seeking to incorporate more sustainable materials into their devices, and PolyOne is exhibiting several of these solutions at the MD&M event. As a key healthcare industry exhibition for nearly 30 years, MD&M East provides a forum for the newest technologies and advances in medical product development.
