RICHMOND, Va. and PLANO, Texas, May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens & Minor and Perot Systems Corporation were recently named as the 2004 “Best Partnership” in the distinguished Outsourcing Excellence Awards (formerly Editor’s Choice Awards). The companies were cited for their successful outsourcing relationship which began in 1998.

Perot Systems, a worldwide provider of information technology services and business solutions, and Owens & Minor, the United States’ leading distributor of national, name-brand medical supplies and supply chain solutions, were one of the seven 2004 winners. A panel of industry experts selected winners of Outsourcing Center’s prestigious annual awards, sponsored jointly this year by Everest Group and Forbes, after a rigorous review of all components of relationship structures and outcomes achieved among the 100 nominations.

To become a finalist in the Best Partnership category, nominees had to meet the following qualifications: achieve maximum possible scores on the initial relationship evaluation; meet all the criteria for Best Process Improvement or Most Transformational Relationship categories; meet all the criteria for the Most Collaborative Relationship category; and achieve outstanding strategic value outcomes from their relationship.

Owens & Minor has been a Perot Systems customer since 1998. Together, Owens & Minor and Perot Systems have developed a number of innovative solutions that allow Owens & Minor to effectively manage business processes and supply chain logistics for their customers and suppliers. In 2002, Owens & Minor outsourced essentially all of its information technology functions to Perot Systems.

“Perot Systems’ teammates are an integral part of the Owens & Minor family,” said Craig R. Smith, president and chief operating officer of Owens & Minor. “Culturally, we’ve integrated them completely. Together, we have been very successful in creating one team from two companies that promotes and creates value for healthcare providers looking for solutions to improve their supply chain delivery.”

Chuck Lyles, Perot Systems vice president and Healthcare group leader, said, “We are constantly striving to develop industry-leading innovations that help healthcare organizations achieve sustainable results. Working with an outstanding company like Owens & Minor, that is also seeking to offer pioneering solutions, has created a team that has had amazing success in working with healthcare providers to streamline the supply chain process.”

Selected twice in the past three years for the top spot in the InformationWeek 500 ranking, Owens & Minor is one of only four companies that have had the distinction to hold the leading position more than once.
