Nixon will manage two of the Biotechnology Center’s loan programs for emerging biotechnology companies and supervise the Center’s investments in angel funds and networks.
Before joining North Carolina’s life sciences community in 2010, Nixon held business development and licensing positions with Alkermes and Novartis, both in Massachusetts. He also has experience working in and with life sciences start-up companies at NetGenics and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
“Joe brings a valuable combination of skills and experience to this important Biotechnology Center position,” said Peter Ginsberg, vice president of Business and Technology Development.
“He has worked in business development, technology transfer and start-up company formation in a variety of life science settings, including a global pharmaceutical company, a mid-sized biotechnology company, and a leading academic medical center. We’re glad to have Joe become part of North Carolina’s vibrant biotechnology community.”
“In my brief time in North Carolina I have been impressed by the Biotechnology Center’s key role in supporting the development of the life science in the state,” said Nixon. “I am excited by the opportunity to help some of the state’s most promising young companies grow into sustainable enterprises.”
Nixon earned a B.S. in biology from Case Western Reserve University and an MBA from Harvard University.
He lives in Chapel Hill with his wife and two children.
