CHICAGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- National Surgical Care, which develops, owns and operates surgical facilities in partnership with physicians and healthcare systems across the country, today announced the acquisition of an ambulatory surgery center in Pinellas Park, Florida, in the Tampa-St. Petersburg metropolitan area. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The surgery center has two surgical suites, one procedure room, and is operated in partnership with nine physicians. Surgical specialties at the center include orthopedics, pain management, and gastroenterology.
Commenting on the announcement, E. Timothy Geary, NSC’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are pleased to partner with the physicians and employees of this outstanding facility. We believe this center meets all the criteria of NSC’s model: an excellent reputation, great physician partners, and numerous opportunities for growth and expansion. Our physician-partners will continue to own a substantial stake in the center, so I feel we have correctly aligned the incentives to grow this surgery center.”
Phillip Davidson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and partner in the surgery center, said, “My partners and I are very glad that NSC recognized the value of our surgery center and its future potential. NSC’s investment enabled us to realize some of the value we created in founding the center. We were equally attracted to NSC’s ability to enhance the performance of our center through value-added services such as managed care contracting, partner recruitment, and facility expansion.”
Commenting on NSC’s prospects for growth, Mr. Geary stated, “The number of independent facilities nationwide provides NSC with a tremendous opportunity to expand. NSC’s ability to successfully operate surgery centers is a great attraction to physicians that own their own centers. Post-acquisition, our surgery centers and their physician partners have seen the benefit of NSC’s extensive operating expertise.” Mr. Geary continued, “One of NSC’s strengths is working closely with the physicians that perform cases at surgery centers and the administrators and nurses that run the facilities. NSC helps them focus on patients and day-to-day operations by professionally managing the business of a surgery center: reaching maximum efficiency, improving communications, finding innovative ways to expand volume and revenue, and providing additional resources to the center to ensure that the staff provides the highest quality of care.”
Headquartered in Chicago, NSC supports its network of surgery centers with experienced operations management and strong financial resources, and is dedicated to clinical excellence in outpatient surgery services.
