WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Managed Care Regulators (NAMCR) is seeking individuals from the health and managed care, regulatory and business communities to participate in a new Medical Management Workgroup. The Workgroup was formed to examine current and developing regulatory requirements for medical management systems including case, disease and utilization management, particularly in light of significant development in approaches since the late 1990's.
"The NAMCR serves to provide advice, guidance and model approaches to officials around the country who have responsibilities for oversight of health benefits that have managed care components," said Edward Unger, CLU, treasurer, NAMCR and coordinator of the Medical Management Workgroup. "Building upon this mission, NAMCR has formed a Medical Management Workgroup to address broad issues in the medical management regulatory environment."
Through a series of open forum meetings, the Medical Management Workgroup will assess the current breadth and depth of medical management activities from a regulatory standpoint, and determine whether there are activities being carried out beyond the purview of existing statutes and regulatory requirements that raise public protection issues. The Medical Management Workgroup is also intended to serve as a resource for the health care community through the development of a white paper on these topics for distribution to regulators, industry stakeholders and other interested parties.
Unger added, "I am excited that NAMCR can facilitate a dialogue through the Medical Management Workgroup and I encourage all interested stakeholders in the health and regulatory communities to join us in this important mission."
The Medical Management Workgroup will begin meeting in mid-September. In addition, NAMCR will hold a Workgroup meeting in conjunction with its 2004 Annual Conference to discuss development of a white paper in further detail.
