MichBio Announces Annual Meeting On March 1, 2005

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- MichBio, the non-profit organization dedicated to driving the growth of the life sciences industry in Michigan, will host Donald E. Jakeway, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), as the keynote speaker for the March 1 meeting at the Eagle Crest Conference Center in Ypsilanti, Mich. Mr. Jakeway’s remarks are titled “Funding, Building and Growing Michigan’s Life Science Industry.” The annual meeting is held at the beginning of each year and includes dinner, a keynote speaker, open bar, and networking.

“We are pleased to host Mr. Jakeway at our annual meeting and are looking forward to learn about his vision and MEDC’s plans for the coming years,” noted Dr. Michael Witt, executive director of MichBio. MichBio members will vote for new Board members as part of the meeting. Dr. Witt will announce the new Board and submit an executive director’s report.

The MEDC was established through a partnership between the state and local Michigan communities to serve as the state’s one-stop economic development organization and has been repeatedly named one of the best state economic development organizations in the nation by both Site Selection and Business Facilities magazines. Donald E. Jakeway directs the corporation’s 270-member staff in economic development efforts and is charged with developing and implementing the MEDC’s strategic plan, annual operating goals and performance objectives. Jakeway’s extensive experience prior to joining MEDC includes serving as the president and CEO of the Regional Growth Partnership (RGP) in Toledo, Ohio, director of the Ohio Department of Development, and economic development director positions in cities of Sarasota (Fla.), Lakewood (Ohio) and Cleveland (Ohio).

The MichBio Annual Meeting draws 125 to 150 of the industry’s leaders and most influential biotech professionals from across the state of Michigan. Registration and networking begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and presentation at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $75.00 for members and $100 for non- members.
