WASHINGTON, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Where is biotechnology taking us in the pursuit of living better and longer? Will our understanding of the genome, retarding of senescence, and other advances in biotechnology provide a better quality of life for us as we age or alter the essential qualities of what it means to be human? Join us on http://www.sagecrossroads.net/ for a live, one- on-one webcast with Dr. Leon Kass, Chairman of the President’s Council on Bioethics, to discuss the future of aging and other key issues explored in the Council’s provocative and controversial report, Beyond Therapy: Biotechnology and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Leon R. Kass, M.D., Ph.D., is the Addie Clark Harding Professor in the Committee on Social Thought and the College at the University of Chicago (on leave of absence) and Hertog Fellow in Social Thought at the American Enterprise Institute. His widely reprinted essays in biomedical ethics have dealt with issues raised by in vitro fertilization, cloning, genetic screening and genetic technology, organ transplantation, aging research, euthanasia and assisted suicide, and the moral nature of the medical profession. In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Dr. Kass Chairman of the President’s Council on Bioethics.
Morton Kondracke, chairman of the SAGE Crossroads editorial board, will conduct the interview. SAGE Crossroads is the premier online forum for emerging issues of human aging. Launched in March 2003 by the publishers of Science Magazine and the Alliance for Aging Research, SAGE Crossroads provides policymakers, journalists and interested consumers with the opportunity to explore the impact of science and technology on aging.
