Keystone Mercy Health Plan Helps Members To Continue Their Education

PHILADELPHIA, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Thirty-six members of Keystone Mercy Health Plan will receive scholarships to further their education at the 16th Annual Member Scholarship Reception, to be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Keystone Mercy Health Plan, located at 100 Stevens Drive in Philadelphia. The guest speaker at the reception will be Nilsa Gonzalez, School Management Officer of the Philadelphia School District.

Keystone Mercy created the Member Scholarship Program in 1988 in an effort to extend support to its members beyond traditional health care services. The Member Scholarship Program recognizes Keystone Mercy members who have committed themselves to continuing their education beyond high school. The scholarship program is driven and funded by donations from Keystone Mercy employees through the Mission Partnership Campaign, which enables employees to donate to a variety of programs benefiting members. Since its inception, the Scholarship Program has awarded over $1 million to more than 500 members.

To receive a scholarship, a person must be an active Keystone Mercy member and a high school graduate. Applicants must also write a one-page essay describing their goals for the future. This year’s recipients include 21 members from Philadelphia County, five members from Delaware County, four members from Montgomery County, four members from Bucks County and two members from Chester County.

Keystone Mercy Health Plan, a healthcare ministry of the Sisters of Mercy in affiliation with Keystone Health Plan East, is the largest Medical Assistance managed care organization in Pennsylvania, serving more than 273,000 Medical Assistance recipients. Keystone Mercy’s mission is to provide accessible, quality health care services to its members, with a special concern for the poor and disadvantaged.
