IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent study by JAMA Internal Medicine revealed that the proportion of middle-aged American men being treated for low testosterone has more than tripled over the last decade. As men test their “T levels,” those diagnosed with low testosterone have many treatment options. One option is volunteering for a clinical research study; these studies allow men to try advanced investigational drugs while helping doctors find the medications of tomorrow. The Irvine Center for Clinical Research, a respected and renowned clinical research provider in Southern California, has announced open enrollment for a clinical research study examining an investigational medication on testosterone levels, sex drive, and energy levels in men over the age of 18.

“There are alarming statistics regarding low testosterone in men. According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 13 million American men may be affected. More than half of men with low testosterone report erectile dysfunction and most say they have a low sex drive,” said Dr. Denny Lee, Principal Investigator, Irvine Center for Clinical Research. “We need men who are experiencing these symptoms to participate in clinical studies and volunteer to take research study medications. Only through research studies like these can doctors find safer and more effective treatments.”

Normal testosterone levels range from 300 to 1,000 nanograms per deciliter of blood, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. A low reading means the testicles are not producing enough testosterone. Men who have been diagnosed with low testosterone may experience symptoms such as reduced sex drive, reduced energy, reduced strength as well as sexual dysfunction, and may want to consider joining a clinical study.

Qualified participants of the clinical research study may receive 9 months’ dosage of investigational medication at no cost, as well as travel and time reimbursements of up to $400. Interested parties should contact Irvine Center for Clinical Research to learn more and schedule a no-cost screening and consultation.
