REDLANDS, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Human Identification Technologies, Inc. (HIT, Inc.), Southern California’s premier private forensic DNA laboratory located in Redlands, has decided to expand their operations to accommodate the ever growing DNA backlog that continues to plague the United States justice system. HIT, Inc. has outlined a $25 million plan to build a second 50,000+ square foot facility with a capacity to house over 100 scientists. “Our current facility is near capacity and the approved expansion will increase our capacity from 700 biological crime scene samples to approximately 4,800 crime scene samples per month,” commented Blaine Kern, President of HIT, Inc. The initial business plan centered on reducing California’s 180 day turn around time for testing to 30 days. “While meeting our internal 30 day turn around time goal in California, HIT, Inc. began to experience explosive growth due to casework submissions from the national market. Our nationwide success thus far is largely due to our staff’s extensive background and years of experience. This combined with our single scientist casework approach and court ready report format has made a significant impact within the legal community,” continued Mr. Kern. “DNA has become such a valuable tool for solving crime. It is imperative to expand the capacity of DNA to assist our country’s justice system.”
HIT, Inc. is currently the largest private DNA laboratory in Southern California designed exclusively for forensic DNA casework in criminal matters. The expansion of HIT, Inc. laboratory operations will have an immediate impact on the nation’s justice system. “Law enforcement agencies and attorneys across the country are expanding the use of DNA in the courtroom; we will be an option for them to turn to when they are looking for DNA results in 10-20 business days,” added Mr. Kern.
“Our sole focus is forensic DNA and its use in criminal matters. This focus has allowed our scientists to concentrate on casework and pour all of their energy into assisting law enforcement agencies and attorneys in criminal matters and ultimately seeking Genetic Justice(TM),” said Mr. Kern.
