NEW YORK, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ramp Corporation today announced that its HealthRamp subsidiary and SureScripts, a private company based in Alexandria, VA, signed an agreement to provide physicians using HealthRamp CarePoint with the ability to utilize SureScripts Messenger(TM) Services -- the largest end-to-end electronic prescribing network in the nation -- to exchange prescription information with pharmacies. HealthRamp develops and markets the CarePoint suite of technologies, which enables electronic prescribing, lab orders and results, Internet-based communication, data integration, and transaction processing over a handheld device or browser, at the point-of-care. HealthRamp’s products enable communication of high value-added healthcare information among physician offices, pharmacies, hospitals, pharmacy benefit managers, health management organizations, pharmaceutical companies and health insurance companies.
This agreement allows CarePoint’s users to utilize the SureScripts transaction gateway for the transmission of refill authorizations, clarifications, new prescriptions and other types of prescribing transactions. This allows HealthRamp customers to further improve the safety, quality and privacy of their prescribing. Through initiatives such as SureScripts’ Community Adoption Program, SureScripts has become a leader in supporting a collaborative approach among physician associations, chain and independent pharmacies, legislators and other industry stakeholders to promote the benefits of electronic prescribing. As part of this approach, HealthRamp looks forward to working with SureScripts on community adoption in the New York area.
“HealthRamp is delighted to partner with SureScripts to enable and promote the proliferation of electronic prescribing. With this partnership we move one step closer toward eliminating the inefficiencies and errors associated with handwritten and phone-ordered prescriptions,” stated Andrew Brown, Ramp’s President. “By coupling SureScripts Messenger(TM) Services with CarePoint we are able to reinforce our commitment to providing healthcare professionals with more time for patient care and far less time on administrative burdens,” concluded Brown.
“HealthRamp mirrors our belief that the large scale adoption of electronic prescribing, and its related efficiencies, begins with a pragmatic approach, reliable technology and industry collaboration. HealthRamp is fast becoming a leader in point-of-care technologies and we are pleased to have SureScripts Messenger(TM) Services become a key piece of the CarePoint offering,” said Kevin Hutchinson, SureScripts’ President and CEO.
According to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, electronic prescribing can significantly reduce medication errors, which contribute to an estimated 7,000 deaths annually. Illegible prescriptions and confusion caused by similar sounding names are common. Companies and software vendors representing half of the nation’s 55,000 retail pharmacies have completed the certification process required to connect to SureScripts and are at various stages of making the capability available to pharmacies.
