BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthPartners today announced it has a new web site that offers interactive tools for consumers including online appointment scheduling, prescription refills and a medical cost calculator.

In its landmark report Crossing the Quality Chasm, the Institute of Medicine cited technology as a key component in transforming health care. The new site builds on other patient services such as electronic medical records, same-day appointments, health and health plan information and other services including:
-- Online doctor’s appointment scheduling. HealthPartners Clinics are the only clinics in Minnesota where patients can directly schedule their doctor’s appointments online. -- Medical cost calculator. The medical cost calculator estimates annual medical expenses based on age or on condition. For example, it will calculate that a typical toddler has about $400 a year in medical expenses, while an average middle aged man will spend about $870 for health care. It also estimates expenses for chronic conditions such as asthma and migraine headaches. -- Online prescription refills. Consumers can choose to have prescriptions mailed to their home. In addition, many HealthPartners plans enable patients to order a three-month supply for two co-payments. -- Discounts to get fit. The new web site offers incentives and online programs for health improvement programs including Weight Watchers and HealthPartners 10,000 Steps program.
