BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- With the late summer/fall allergy season in full swing in the Twin Cities, health experts are offering tips to reduce the risk of allergies and asthma attacks. According to HealthPartners allergists, there are several simple things allergy-sufferers can do to reduce their exposure to allergens.
"The easiest thing people can do to help relieve their allergy symptoms is to keep the windows of their home closed," said Dr. Timothy Lind, allergist, HealthPartners. "If needed, people can run air conditioning, as this filters out some of the ragweed pollen and mold spores that are common at this time of year," he added.
Additional Tips to Relieve Allergy Symptoms -- Minimize early morning activity; this is when pollen counts are highest. -- Keep car windows closed and use air conditioning as needed. -- Consider staying indoors when pollen or mold counts are highest, especially if windy. -- Don't rake leaves if mold allergic.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, ragweed is the most common cause of hay fever symptoms during the fall season. Forecasts predict high levels of ragweed pollen for the next several weeks throughout the Twin Cities Metro area.
