CANTON, Ohio, May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Employers Health Purchasing Corporation of Ohio (EHPCO), a coalition of self-insured employers, will issue grants totaling $100,000 to community healthcare service providers that serve the un-insured and under-insured in Northeast Ohio.
The grants will be awarded on Wednesday, May 4 at 12:00 PM, at the organization’s spring symposium “The Path to Healthcare Consumerism,” featuring keynote speaker Craig Froude, Senior Vice President and General Manager of WebMD Health Services. Froude is scheduled to speak at 8:30 AM. Media are encouraged to attend.
“The beneficiary free clinics were chosen due to their financial need and their work on the “front lines” serving the primary care needs of those who would otherwise not have access to health care, except through an emergency room visit,” said Christopher Goff, CEO.
The grants are part of EHPCO’s “Healthy Community” program that targets areas with citizens in need of additional access to healthcare and matches qualifying organizations with the available grant money. The target areas are Stark, Summit, Portage, Wayne, Holmes, Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties.
Application packets were sent to free clinics requesting an opportunity to apply for a grant. The application process was publicized in advance. EHPCO received a total of fifteen proposals and has chosen six qualifying institutions to receive grants ranging from $13,000 to $20,000.
“These community clinics provide more than healthcare services,” said Goff. “They help educate as well, teaching people to care for themselves and providing lasting benefits that increase the community’s over all wellness and reduce emergency room visits and other costly healthcare alternatives.”
