BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- GetWellNetwork, Inc., the leading provider of interactive patient care solutions, announced today that renowned healthcare information technology authority Paul W. Brient will join its board of directors as an independent member.
Brient is the president and chief executive officer of PatientKeeper, Inc., the leading provider of mobile computing for healthcare. He has overseen PatientKeeper’s growth from an early stage company to an acknowledged market leader with installations at more than 200 hospitals over the past three years. Brient has more than 18 years of experience in healthcare information technology including physician workflow automation, physician practice automation, payor-based medical management, pharmaceutical based disease management, and medical devices.
Prior to joining PatientKeeper, Brient held various senior executive-level positions at McKesson Corporation. Most recently, he served as senior vice president and general manager of MHS Technologies, a highly profitable division focused on medical management software applications including InterQual, CRMS, and CCMS. Brient’s career at McKesson began at HPR Inc. where he led Product Management and overall product strategy. He played a pivotal role in selling the company to HBOC, which subsequently merged with McKesson. Prior to leaving McKesson, Brient grew the division to more than $100 million in annual revenue.
“We are delighted to have Paul Brient join our board of directors,” said Michael O’Neil, GetWellNetwork, Inc. founder and CEO. “His experience at developing companies with emerging technology solutions is unsurpassed. Patients, caregivers and hospital administrators, along with our company’s management and board, will greatly benefit from Paul’s experience and leadership in the continual evolution of interactive patient care solutions.”
Brient said, “I am very pleased to be joining such a dynamic organization -- one that is focused on changing the patient experience. Ironically, the patient is often the least served constituency of the healthcare industry from an information technology perspective. GetWellNetwork has developed the leading interactive patient care platform that both empowers patients and keeps them connected while they are in the hospital. GetWellNetwork is at the forefront of a new era of patient-centered care, and I am excited to be part of it.”
Brient began his healthcare IT career as the founder and president of BCS, an early physician office management software company. BCS has the distinction of being one of the first companies to offer electronic claims submission in the state of Florida.
Brient earned his MBA from The Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration with High Distinction (Baker Scholar). He also holds a BSE in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science summa cum laude from Princeton University.
