WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The General Services Administration, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will dedicate the Central Shared Use Building at FDA's new facility in White Oak, Maryland on October 12, 2006.
The new building will serve as the central "hub" of the overall campus, connecting the main entry in the historic Building One to the campus commons through a central atrium, and provide shared facilities for the entire campus. Historic Building One housed the Naval Surface Warfare Center 1940-1997. The multi-functional building features several environmental sensitivities such as a "green roof" over 50% of the roof, natural ventilation, solar shading devices, and the use of recycled content in many specified products. It will provide conference and training facilities, a fitness center, a cafeteria, and a biosciences library for the growing FDA population.
Kling/RTKL Partnership, Washington, D.C., are the design architects and engineers for the entire project. Centex Construction Company, Fairfax, Virginia is the builder; and Heery/Tishman, Landover, Maryland is the Construction Manager.
