The focus of DDL25, is to provide a conference dedicated to the continued advancement of formulation development and manufacturing for nasal and inhalation drug products, such as metered-dose and dry powder inhalers. The poster session titled “Chemically-specific Characterization of Particulate in Inhalable Drug Products using Raman and Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (Raman/LIBS)”, is a collaboration between Gateway Analytical and the University of Bath. This session will discuss how automated Raman/LIBS analysis was used to investigate a drug product contamination issue, and establish the size and chemical makeup (metallic, organic or inorganic) of the foreign particulates.

In addition to the poster session, Gateway Analytical will be exhibiting at the conference to promote their chemically-specific particle sizing and particulate characterization services that provide critical data and quality testing support for inhalation drug developers. “A common challenge drug developers of nasal and inhalation products often face is the ability completely characterize and understand the particles in their formulation” said David Exline, Senior Vice President at Gateway Analytical. “We provide a total particle characterization solution by providing developers with in-depth characterization of their inhalable drugs, which includes differentiating particles by their chemical make-up, acquiring sizing information for each component, evaluating the degree of drug-specific aggregates, and identifying any unknown particulates, which is especially effective in the analysis of complex combinational products.”

Gateway Analytical is a full service, cGMP compliant, ISO 17025:2005 certified, FDA registered and inspected laboratory with specialized expertise in techniques for chemically specific analysis and particulate contamination identification.
