David H. Murdock announced today that Mark Spitzer is Castle & Cooke’s new vice president of North Carolina Operations.
Westlake Village, CA - David H. Murdock, the visionary behind the NC Research Campus, announced today that Mark Spitzer, director of human resources for Castle & Cooke, Inc., has been promoted to vice president of North Carolina Operations.
“I am strongly committed to the mission of the NC Research Campus and to all of our operations in North Carolina,” Murdock said. “I feel Mark is the right person to help us succeed in achieving the vision of the campus and leading our North Carolina operations.”
In this position, Spitzer will work closely with leaders of the various constituencies in the NC Research Campus and the David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI). He will also oversee Castle & Cooke’s real estate, recreational and hospitality operations in and around Kannapolis, North Carolina.”
Spitzer was chosen for the position because of his 35 years of experience in professional and management roles in academia, construction and human resources. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California and completed an MBA at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He worked at both universities, and at UCLA improved collaboration and cost management efforts in concert with academic and administrative departments.
He strengthened the leadership and collaborative skills of the management and executive teams at Flying Tigers, Rockwell International and National Medical Enterprises. He built a successful residential remodeling business before returning to corporate life in the late 1990s as director of executive compensation at Computer Sciences Corporation and, most recently, as director of human resources in the corporate offices of Dole Food Company and Castle & Cooke, Inc.
