EXTON, Pa., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Daou Systems, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: DAOU) , a provider of IT consulting and management services to healthcare organizations, today announced an agreement with Salem Hospital Regional Health Services in Salem, OR to design and implement an Internet portal solution for physicians.
Daou will develop and implement a Provider Portal, built on the emPOWERnet(TM) web services architecture technology from Park City Solutions providing Salem Hospital with a platform that integrates information from disparate systems into a single view, where it can be quickly and easily accessed by physicians, nurses and other authorized clinical and administrative staff.
“Increasing numbers of providers are discovering the powerful integration capabilities of a web services architecture,” said Vincent K. Roach, Daou’s president and CEO. “By implementing solutions like the emPOWERnet(TM) Provider Portal, we are helping Salem Hospital use web technology to link information from disparate systems and present it to clinicians in a user-friendly format. It’s a practical, affordable alternative to the huge expense of replacing their existing systems to achieve the same breadth of integration.”
The first phase of the project will take approximately six months to implement. Phase One functionality will place Salem Hospital clinicians clicks away from vital updates and summaries of patient data.
“Our search for the right web services partner led us to Daou,” said Dennis Sato, CIO at Salem Hospital. “Daou’s Advanced Technologies group has considerable expertise coupled with a substantial technology solution. It will enable Salem Hospital physicians to easily obtain information and do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.”
More than 500 physicians have privileges at Salem Hospital, Sato noted. “Some of them have remote access to clinical information through a variety of laboratory, radiology and other systems, but accessing patient information that way is cumbersome,” he said. “When Daou completes its work, the portal will enable Salem Hospital to provide better support to its clinical staff, What’s more, we’ll have the foundation to expand our portal to support other key functions within our hospital, such as patient scheduling, fetal monitoring, pharmacy and others. This is an important investment for our facility, one that will enable us to provide better care and service to our patients than ever before.”
