MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has named Carmie Mehrlander of Atlanta, Ga., to the newly created post of executive director of Thanks and Giving.
Thanks and Giving is a national event, created in 2004, to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital -- the world’s epicenter of pediatric medical research that was founded by the late entertainer, Danny Thomas. The program encourages consumers to give thanks for the children in their lives who are healthy while giving to those who are not, with the hope that some day all children will be healthy.
In this role, Mehrlander will oversee corporate partner development, merchandising and fundraising programs associated with Thanks and Giving.
Prior to joining St. Jude, Mehrlander was chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Bombay Company, Inc. She has 30 years retail experience most notably with Federated Department Stores, Inc., Macy’s, Sears and The Home Shopping Network.
Mehrlander has served as a Professional Advisory Board member for St. Jude for the past six years.
“Thanks to Marlo Thomas, who has worked tirelessly as the driving force behind the program, Thanks and Giving has quickly become a critical element of the fundraising effort for St. Jude,” said John Moses, chief executive officer of ALSAC/St. Jude. “Now Carmie’s retail knowledge and experience will allow us to further enhance our corporate relationships and develop programs that benefit our partners as we work together to expand our support to the life- saving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”
“I’ve worked in a volunteer capacity with St. Jude for many years and know first hand the impact our fundraising has on saving children’s lives,” Mehrlander added. “I’m hopeful my experience will help increase the awareness and fundraising that allows St. Jude to continue the research that is so critical to finding cures for children everywhere.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fund-raising organization.
