Bernard Hodes Group Release: Health Care Recruiters Seeking Future RNs

NEW YORK, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Results of a recent online survey of 1,380 undergraduate nursing students sponsored by Bernard Hodes Group, a leading provider of recruitment communications and staffing solutions, and Campus RN (http://www.campusrn.com/), a health care student portal, are available online at: http://www.hodes.com/hcrecruiting/. The survey was conducted to gain insight to the characteristics of the future health care workforce currently enrolled in college nursing programs. The results cover the following categories: student demographics and program enrollment, considerations in choosing a career in health care, selection factors in targeting potential institutions for employment, effective recruiting tactics to reach this target audience, and their employment selection factors.

“We conducted this survey with the objective of producing meaningful hard data on the future nurse workforce which we could share with our Hodes clients working in health care recruitment,” said Karen Hart, Senior Vice President, Health Care Division. “We believe the results offer health care organizations a framework to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses so they may better meet the needs of this important health care recruitment target audience.”

Seven in ten (71%) survey respondents were full-time students. One fifth were either graduate students (16%) or recent grads (4%). Nearly all survey respondents (97%) are enrolled in a nursing program. Over half (54%) are enrolled in a BSN program.

“Hospitals that are winning the war for talent,” says Matt Casey, founder and CEO, CampusCareerCenter.com, “are not just sitting back and worrying about the numbers. Rather, he adds, “Understanding the new generation of health care talent, and seeking them out aggressively will be critical given the shortage of professionals we’re now experiencing.”

Respondents still rated highest their desire to help people as the reason for choosing a health care career, followed by fulfilling a lifelong ambition and the attraction to working in a stable industry with growth potential. Salary ranked in the middle of the range. Respondents cited the amount of work and difficulty involved in pursuing a nursing career as the biggest change in their perceptions of a health care career.

The Health Care Division representatives can discuss the survey results with conference attendees at the Bernard Hodes Group booth at the following events:
