AORN Release: Future Directions Conference Spotlights Patient Safety In The Digital World

DENVER, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) announced today an Educational Conference on Future Directions in Perioperative Services -- Leadership. Education. Industry. Informatics. The conference addresses creating a culture of patient safety as a topic since it is one of the top three needs identified by perioperative managers.

"In this era of digital information, many patients are concerned about privacy with the use of personal information captured electronically. Health care must address this issue while continuing to explore new electronic formats that will improve patient safety (for example, using bar scanning of wristbands for medication identification and administration)," said Susan Root, RN, MSN, CNOR. "Patient Safety in the Digital World addresses using advances in health care software, such as medical and patient alerts, tracking systems, and care planning, to reduce medical errors."

The conference will be held November 5-6, 2005 at the OMNI Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta, GA. Other topics include: "Growing Your Own Management Group," "Pediatric Medication Errors," "Career Ladders: Recruitment & Retention Tools," "Perioperative Patient Safety Considerations for the Elderly," "Breaking the Cycle of Disruptive Behavior," and more.

Potential attendees for this conference include nurses who work in leadership, management, education, business, industry, consulting, and informatics.

Two seminars are available before the Conference: Laser Concepts in Health Care on November 3rd, and Performance Improvement and Risk Management on November 4th.

Cost to attend: Daily and full conference, member and standard rates are available. Prices vary from $110 to $525. Register before October 7, 2005 for early bird rates.
