Not many people look forward to a colonoscopy - an invasive screening test for colon cancer that doctors recommend after the age of 50. But now a new study shows that a non-invasive colon cancer screening test that detects blood in the stool is highly effective, too, if used year after year to check for colon cancer.
The study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is highly sensitive for detecting colorectal cancer, and people were good about conducting the at-home test annually for four years in a row.
