SCIVAX USA, INC. Opens Sales Office in Greater Boston Area

Woburn, MA (July 31, 2012) – SCIVAX USA, Inc., a 3D cell culture system provider, announced today that the company has launched a sales office in Woburn, Massachusetts. The company is headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan.

“Our sales office in Woburn is in a start up phase, however, thanks to the world leading pharmaceutical companies and research institutes here in Massachusetts, we are excited to enter into collaborations and accelerate our R&D,” said Hiromi Miura, President of SCIVAX USA, INC. “We believe the greater Boston area is an ideal location for a technological development venture like us.”

SCIVAX develops novel 3D cell culture plates (NanoCulture® Plate (NCP)), utilizing cutting edge nanoimprinting technology, and markets mainly to the drug discovery market. NCP enables researchers to culture easily in vivo-like 3D multi-cellular spheroids using the same technique for culturing monolayer cells. Its capability is highly valued by both pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions, with growing users in Japan, the USA, and Europe.

“Our original 3D cell culture technology is a groundbreaking technology for drug discovery, regenerative medicine, etc., and it is gathering worldwide attention,” Mr. Miura continued. “We are targeting to bring up our 3D cell culture technology to a de facto standard for next generation cell culture technology. We chose Massachusetts because of its importance as a biotechnology cluster and the state’s global leadership in the life sciences.”

“Massachusetts leads the world in life sciences thanks to our growth strategy of investing in education, innovation and infrastructure,” said Governor Deval Patrick. “We welcome Scivax USA, and we look forward to working with them to create jobs and opportunities in the Commonwealth.”

“We are excited to welcome Scivax USA to the Massachusetts Life Sciences community,” said Susan Windham-Bannister, Ph.D., President & CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, the agency charged with implementing Governor Patrick’s 10-year, $1 billion Life Sciences Initiative. “This company's presence in Massachusetts will contribute to our economy, and strengthen both our life sciences ecosystem and the growing business ties between Massachusetts and Japan. I am confident that Scivax will find all of the resources and partners it needs to thrive in Massachusetts.”

“Scivax opening a sales office in Woburn is a testament to the critical role Massachusetts plays in the global life sciences value chain.” said Ken Brown, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment. “I wish the company much success and look forward to their growing presence in the Commonwealth.”

“We are very happy to have Scivax join the growing contingent of Japanese, and international companies expanding operations in Massachusetts,” said Takeshi Hikihara, the Consul General of Japan in Boston. “Both Massachusetts and Japan are known for their strengths in high tech and life sciences, so Scivax, with its cutting edge technologies, is a natural fit for the state’s knowledge-based economy. It will provide tangible economic benefits to both countries, and will further strengthen the partnership between Massachusetts and Japan.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Scivax to Massachusetts, and are excited by the efforts they have quickly made to partner with other biotech companies, organizations and suppliers here in our supercluster,” said Robert Coughlin, President & CEO of MassBio. “We thank Scivax for their interest in growing here in the Commonwealth, the world leader for life sciences.”

The new office is located at Cummings Properties’ TradeCenter 128. “With its location in our executive office center, Scivax joins a dynamic community of international firms,” said Dennis Clarke, Cummings Properties’ president and CEO. “We look forward to supporting Scivax’s growth as it becomes part of the Commonwealth’s very active and successful life sciences community.”
