High Point Clinical Trials Center Unveils Community Screening Outreach RV

The conversion of a Recreational Vehicle (RV) to a mobile screening and medical information unit will support High Point Clinical Trials Center’s (HPCTC) volunteer outreach initiatives in North Carolina

HIGH POINT, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--High Point Clinical Trials Center announced today the official launch of its mobile clinical van offering free health screening services to North Carolina’s Triad region and beyond. The objective is to use the 33’ health center on wheels to participate in community events and offer free medical screenings along with information on the benefits of clinical research.

“I am very excited about this unique project in support of our community-based medicine and patient outreach efforts. This RV allows our Medical Team to literally be on the road bringing healthcare directly to our fellow citizens who may lack access to basic medical screening and support”

The first outing at the Fun Fourth Street Festival in Greensboro, NC was a resounding success. 400+ exchanges took place with fellow festival attendees about their health. 230 diabetes and 200+ blood pressure evaluations were offered for free.

“I am very excited about this unique project in support of our community-based medicine and patient outreach efforts. This RV allows our Medical Team to literally be on the road bringing healthcare directly to our fellow citizens who may lack access to basic medical screening and support,” said Doug Copeland, Executive Vice President, Corporate Development.

High Point Clinical Trials Center’s Physician Investigators have been working within the local free clinic environment to provide services to the medically underserved along with guidance on upcoming clinical trials that may benefit them.

The launch of the mobile unit will allow for increased outreach, providing information and the flexibility of remote screening, testing and limited medical procedures to individuals interested in participating in clinical trials. This effort aligns with HPCTC’s goal of Science Driving Service™, with a focus towards contributing to medically underserved in the community.

“As part of our commitment to the community, we have long participated in health fairs in the area in and near High Point,” said Lorraine M. Rusch, Ph.D., President at High Point Clinical Trials Center. “With this vehicle, we move to a regional focus in our outreach, allowing us to take these services to the entire Triad and beyond. We plan to attend a wide range of community events to initially offer evaluations such blood pressure screening and diabetes screening, the most common issues impacting the Triad’s underserved community.”
