Genisphere's Unique 3DNA Dendrimer Receives Frost & Sullivan's 2005 Technology Innovation Award

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis of the DNA microarrays market selected Genisphere as the recipient of the 2005 Technology Innovation Award for its success in the microarray market and for developing labeling kits based on the 3DNA dendrimer, an innovative signal amplification technology.

Sensitive labeling technology for high quality images and proper analysis of data is crucial to microarray research. In microarray testing, the efficiency of incorporation varies from dye to dye and from sample to sample and Genisphere's 3DNA dendrimer offers increased efficiency and sensitivity.
In addition, 3DNA dendrimers also demonstrate great flexibility and specificity. The architecture of the 3DNA dendrimer has no limitations on the type of specificity or label used. The label may be fluorescent, enzymatic, or radioactive. The application specificity may take the form of a generic sequence, targeted specific sequence, or an antibody.
Furthermore, 3DNA dendrimers are labeled with an average of at least 200 labels. The dendrimer carries these labels with it every time it binds to a complementary molecule, resulting in up to a 200-fold passive enhancement of signal intensity.
"3DNA dendrimers offer a cost-effective solution for researchers due to the high sensitivity enabling them to use less starting material, thereby decreasing costs associated with experimentation," explains Shah. "This technology is currently used by 10 percent of researchers but this number is expected to dramatically increase over the next few years."
