Ascension Orthopedics, Inc. Announces TITAN(TM) Modular Shoulder Implantations at Union Memorial Hospital

AUSTIN, Texas, April 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ascension Orthopedics, Inc., a world leader in PyroCarbon orthopedic devices, announces additional implantations of the TITAN Modular Total Shoulder. The surgeries were performed by Anand Murthi, M.D. at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

"I have been utilizing the TITAN Humeral Resurfacing implant for a number of years in my practice. Now that Ascension has a total shoulder option, there is one system I can utilize for many different patient indications," stated Dr. Murthi. "The first patient who we implanted with the TITAN Total Shoulder was suffering from late stage AVN. The procedure went very well, and at two months post surgery, she is experiencing an increase in motion and significant pain reduction in the affected shoulder. The instrumentation allows for a quick and easy procedure, which is largely beneficial to the patient's successful outcome."

The TITAN shoulder line offers a Humeral Resurfacing implant as well as a Modular Total Shoulder enabling the use of one system in a number of different applications including: humeral resurfacing arthroplasty, hemi or total shoulder arthroplasty, and press-fit or cemented fracture arthroplasty. Less instrumentation is needed in the operating room, and the ease of reproducibility provides consistent patient outcomes.

"We are excited to continue building on our clinical experience with the TITAN Total Shoulder. Ascension is currently working on additions to the TITAN line which will allow the system to be used in more clinical indications," commented Guy Mayer, President and CEO of Ascension Orthopedics. "As we expand our shoulder product offering, we expect to continue the great success that we have seen with the TITAN Humeral Resurfacing and Total Shoulder System."
