Limit Alcohol To Cut Urge For Cigarettes

Smokers who limit alcohol or don't drink may cut their cigarette cravings, researchers report. Here's how Andrea King, PhD, of the University of Chicago's medical school puts it. "For people who are initially trying to quit smoking, it would be advised that they either abstain from drinking altogether, or drink only one or two drinks per occasion over a slow time course in order to avoid sharp rises in cigarette craving, which may increase their risk for smoking relapse," says King in a news release. King's study appears in the April issue of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
