FREDERICK, Md. -- Next month, the annual Technology Showcase will return to the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. The event attracts research innovators and business professionals who wish to learn about advanced technologies being developed at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Frederick National Laboratory (FNL).

More than 300 NCI technologies are currently available for licensing or collaboration leading to commercialization. The 2019 Technology Showcase aims to bring more visibility to external researchers for these opportunities at the NCI and FNL.

“It is very important to let everyone know about the amazing research we do in Frederick,” said Vladimir Popov, Ph.D., director of the Partnership Development Office at the Frederick National Laboratory. “Both FNL and NCI make significant advances in cancer research, and the Technology Showcase shares our newest technologies and cancer research successes.”

The Showcase, scheduled for June 12 at the Advanced Technology Research Facility, will include a poster session, hosted by the NCI Technology Transfer Ambassadors Program, that features additional technologies available for licensing or collaboration.

Participants can also choose among several educational panels—a new addition this year. The panels will cover how to partner with the NCI and FNL, attract equity investors, obtain funding for commercialization, and leverage incubators and accelerators.

Popov explained that these panels address some of the most common issues in technology transfer and development. “They will be useful resources for companies seeking funding, pursuing technology commercialization, or looking for partnerships and collaborations,” he said.

“This is an impactful, enjoyable way to connect innovators with stakeholders—our version of Match.com,” added Michael Salgaller, Ph.D., unit supervisor within the NCI Technology Transfer Center, which leads the event planning committee.

Rich Bendis, President and CEO of BioHealth Innovation, Inc., will deliver the keynote, and a networking event will round out the day, providing additional opportunities for participants to network and engage with the inventors and one another.

The event will run from noon to 5:00 pm and is co-sponsored by NCI, FNL, the Frederick County Office of Economic Development, the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, and TEDCO.
