Anne Arundel Medical Center has chosen TierPoint’s newest data center in BWI Technology Park for colocation and disaster recovery services.
BALTIMORE, July 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Anne Arundel Medical Center has chosen TierPoint’s newest data center in BWI Technology Park for colocation and disaster recovery services.
“After evaluating several data center providers, we chose TierPoint because they offered the right combination of features, value, and organizational reputation for quality in the industry,” said Anne Arundel Health System Associate Chief Information Officer Saad Chaudhry. “Geographic location was also a large factor for us. TierPoint’s new facility is far enough away from the Center to be valuable in the event of a disaster, but close enough for us to coordinate activities fluidly. To that end, TierPoint provided us the perfect menu from which to choose exactly what we needed for our current and future IT infrastructure needs.”
“The Medical Center is a nationally renowned healthcare facility and one of largest employers and economic contributors in the greater Baltimore area,” said TierPoint Mid-Atlantic Region Vice President Samantha Wojenski. “We’re thrilled to partner with them on their IT infrastructure needs, for the benefit of their patients and world-class medical teams.”
Last August, less than year after expanding its original Baltimore-area data center on Russell Street, TierPoint announced plans to build the new facility in BWI Technology Park, in response to growing demand. Construction was completed earlier this month, and the company will offer tours during an open house scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. ET on July 25.
“The location of TierPoint’s new data center in the fast-growing BWI business district has the potential to translate into as much as $20 million in capital investment,” said Julie Mussog, CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC). “The company’s wide range of services are valuable resources that underscore the attractiveness of Anne Arundel County as a location for innovative businesses.”
According to Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh, “As home to Fort Meade, the nation’s cybersecurity hub, our county provides data and network security innovators a number of valuable assets, such as a highly skilled tech workforce and more than 500 miles of dark fiber. The completion of TierPoint’s newest data center further enhances our infrastructure and the County’s footprint in the technology marketplace.”
The new, carrier-neutral facility in St. John Properties’ BWI Technology Park features approximately 35,000 square feet of total space, including infrastructure support, office and shared work space for clients, and 23,000 square feet of raised floor. The developer constructed the building with custom-designed features so the facility meets stringent regulatory compliance standards, with fully redundant and generator-backed power, diverse high-speed network connectivity, and multi-layer physical security.
