The Almac Group, headquartered in Craigavon Northern Ireland, with further sites across the UK and USA, is celebrating success after being named ‘Business of the Year’ by Northern Ireland’s main daily newspaper, ‘The Belfast Telegraph’ in association with BMI.
Competing against the cream of Northern Ireland’s business talent Almac was recognised for its contribution to the knowledge economy, and growing success in competing in global markets despite the economic downturn.
Almac picked up the overall ‘Business of the Year’ accolade building on their success earlier in the evening winning the category for ‘Excellence in Exporting Achievement’. The company were recently named ‘Exporter of the Year’ Northern Ireland’s economic development agency Invest NI. Almac are one of the largest exporters in the Northern Ireland economy and in 2008 saw export sales generate over 70% of the company turnover.
Almac Group CEO Alan Armstrong expressed his pride in the recognition and said he expected 2009 to be an exciting year for the company.

We are continuing to grow with 2008 seeing staff numbers in Northern Ireland rise by 15% to 1,428 and in the US by 10% to 762; so far in 2009 we have extended our staff by a further 180. In addition, appropriately on St. Patrick’s Day, our new $112m US Headquarters in Lower Salford Township, Pennsylvania reached the landmark stage of its ‘Topping Off’ ceremony.”
