Peter A. Kiener took quite a journey to get to his present position as CEO and president of Gaithersburg biotech Zyngenia, one that took him from his native England to the East Coast, Texas and the West Coast before returning east. “I loved to move around. I was able to not just go into new areas of science but see firsthand what different parts of the country were like,” said Kiener, 59. “But I’m settled now. Maryland has great schools, which is important when you are raising a family.” After earning a bachelor’s in chemistry from the University of Lancaster (U.K.) and a doctorate in biochemistry from Oxford (U.K.) University, Kiener moved across the pond to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship in Massachusetts. He returned to visit England, but not to live there.
