Advanced Features of Carestream Health, Inc.'s Vue RIS, PACS Can Enhance Efficiency and Reduce Total Cost of Ownership

CHICAGO, Nov. 15 — Eliminating forklift upgrades for outdated PACS systems. Native features that replace the need for third-party integrations. New native features allow reporting complex ultrasound studies using data communicated directly from ultrasound systems. These and other innovative capabilities offered by Carestream’s Vue RIS and Vue PACS were spotlighted this week at the Radiological Society of North America tradeshow.

“We understand healthcare facilities worldwide are under tight budget constraints. Therefore we are creating affordable RIS and PACS platforms that can streamline workflow, boost productivity and reduce operating costs for healthcare providers of all sizes,” said Elad Benjamin, Carestream Health’s General Manager, Healthcare Information Solutions. Vue PACS can eliminate the cost of data migration through use of an innovative metadata indexing system that allows access to imaging exams stored on existing archives. The PACS also equips on-site or remote users with reading, reporting, advanced 3D processing and other tools to improve user productivity. Its Vue Motion zero-footprint, web-based viewer enables convenient on demand access to medical imaging data with on-site or remote clinicians across the enterprise.

Vue Motion has received a clearance letter from the FDA for use with mobile devices such as Apple iPads. The viewer is already being used with mobile devices in other countries worldwide.

Renaissance Imaging Medical Associates (RIMA) of Northridge, Calif., beta tested a new native reporting feature currently under development that creates automatic reporting for ultrasound exams* by populating standard report templates with data that is directly transferred from the ultrasound machines.

“During testing, I was able to automatically report complex diagnostic ultrasound studies instead of enduring the time-consuming process of manually entering data. This can dramatically improve radiologists’ productivity and is a direct benefit of this embedded reporting feature from the Vue PACS,” said Andrew Deutsch, MD, MBA, President, RIMA.

In addition to its Vue RIS and PACS platforms, Carestream also offers vendor-neutral archiving that can serve a single site or an entire healthcare system. The archive can be delivered as an on-site solution or a pay-per-use cloud-based service. CARESTREAM Vue for Cloud-Based Services can also be used to address disaster recovery requirements for an on-site archive.

Flexible RIS Designed for Changing Regulatory Requirements

Carestream’s Vue RIS can help healthcare providers adapt their imaging workflow to meet meaningful use requirements in the U.S. and government regulations in other countries. The Vue RIS is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as an EHR Module by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) in October. Built-in functionality that can help reduce operating costs and improve workflow efficiency includes: a sophisticated rules engine; anatomical drawing tools; embedded reporting (digital dictation or voice recognition); critical results notification and peer review.

“The design of Carestream Vue RIS and Vue PACS enables us to boost efficiency and adapt our radiology workflow as our needs change,” said Rob Sumter, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Regional Medical Center at Memphis in Memphis, Tenn. “These platforms also equip us with built-in advanced features that not only streamline scheduling and reporting, but also eliminate the time and expense of integrating third-party software.”

Valuable business intelligence tools deliver accurate data about personnel and equipment utilization so managers can make strategic decisions to help improve efficiency and profitability.

The web-based RIS is accessible to authorized users from any location and easily scales to address the needs of single or multi-site healthcare systems. Vue RIS offers specialized mammography scheduling and reporting functionality that meets country-specific requirements in North America and Europe.
