Accelr8 Technology Corporation Announces Second License To SCHOTT Nexterion

DENVER, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Accelr8 Technology Corporation and SCHOTT Nexterion(R) (SCHOTT JENAer GLAS GmbH, Jena, Germany) announced execution of a second OptiChem(R) license agreement to SCHOTT. The new license covers a second version of Accelr8’s OptiChem coatings used in microarraying slides. The 2-year license grants SCHOTT the non-exclusive right to manufacture and sell Nexterion Slide HS microarraying slides that use the protein-containing coating. In return, SCHOTT has paid Accelr8 a license fee and pre-paid royalties. This agreement follows an earlier license for a different type of OptiChem, signed in 2004.

Slide HS provides a surface coated with streptavidin, which is a type of protein. The coating provides a uniform and stable surface to maximize detection sensitivity for research in disease markers for diagnostics and in drug discovery.

According to David Howson, Accelr8’s president, “SCHOTT has developed industrial and academic customers for Slide HS. One of their industrial customers has launched a protein microarray product line that uses our coatings because of their performance advantages. We are very pleased to expand our relationship with SCHOTT Nexterion as the microarraying market continues to develop. In particular, we look forward to participating in the molecular diagnostics market as microarraying matures.”
